Mo Gaba’s Painted Sky

If you haven’t yet read a very touching piece in The Athletic about Mo Gaba, co-written by Jeff Zrebiec and Britt Ghiroli, do yourself a favor and check it out HERE.

The article opens with the experiences of former Orioles pitcher Zach Britton who had befriended Mo while wearing an O’s uniform. Britton was in town with his new team, the Yankees, and had just learned of Mo’s passing moments after it happened. Around the same time, Zach marveled at a painted sky, featuring dazzling shades of orange and purple, the primary colors of Mo’s two favorite teams, the Orioles and the Ravens.

Mo was an angel on Earth and as a man of faith, I believe that God decided that Mo’s mission in our world was complete. He left his beautiful mark. Now, it is incumbent upon the rest of us to absorb Mo’s lesson and carry it forward.

That sky at dusk on July 28, was one last reminder from Mo to always seek the good even during the most challenging of times. Just as he did every day of his life.
